How to Use 2K Automotive Clear Coat
Prep
Proper prep affects the appearance of your basecoat, which also impacts your clear coat. Cleaning, repairing, priming, and sanding the bare metal of your car will ensure your top coat is shiny and properly applied with no obvious flaws. Expert tip: When mixing your clear coat, follow the mixing ratio provided by the manufacturer for ideal consistency and application.
Application
Most professional finishes require 2-3 coats total. Start with a light application to provide the foundation for subsequent layers. After 5-10 minutes, apply a full coat using overlapping passes. If you want complete protection and shine, apply an optional third coat to maximize UV protection and enhance the mirror-like finish. Remember: always avoid thick coats. Instead, opt for multiple thinner coats for the ideal finish and texture.
Drying Time
While your clear coat might seem dry within 2 hours, you should leave your car to completely dry for at least 24 hours. Once your topcoat has completely set, you can proceed with polishing.
